Trained as a physical chemist and a patent agent, Mary Phillips, Ph.D., has a passion for helping early-stage entrepreneurs solve the complex puzzle of transforming their STEMM-based ideas and discoveries into purpose-driven business realities supporting human health and well-being and the planet we all inhabit. Mary currently works with several early-stage companies leveraging the experience she has gained working as either a founder (Qualtura Biotechnology), chief strategic officer (Thaena Inc), coach (STEMMbridge LLC), mentor (Oregon Bioscience Incubator, OSU Advantage Accelerator), and an investment selection committee member (Nutrition Capital Investment Network). 

Successfully navigating the twists and turns and managing the many and varied aspects of starting a company, Mary brings her decades of knowledge and expertise in intellectual property strategy, market landscapes, negotiation, team building, leadership, business model generation, company formation, and fundraising. Mary has a deep appreciation of the many challenges experienced by early-stage entrepreneurs, especially women and minority STEMM entrepreneurs, and is committed to helping them confidently find their feet and create the companies they were born to lead. 

Always curious to learn more, Mary has completed numerous business development courses, including the OSU Leadership Collaborative, the Disney Business Institute's Approach to Selection, Training, and Engagement, OBA's Marketing Foundations,  the NSF I-Corp program, and the Bend X Women's Inclusive Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. In her spare time, Mary runs the trails in the forests with her dog, training for her next ultramarathon and supports the 500 Women Scientists in their mission to "serve society by making science open, inclusive, and accessible and transform society by fighting racism, patriarchy, and oppressive societal norms".
